Custom Shady Retreat Location: Arlington, VA This site is located in the Lyon Village community in North Arlington. Willow worked closely with the client to make her dream garden come true. The client was very involved with the designing of the custom trellis fence, walkway, tiered deck, and plant selections. The goal was to design a fence that was not only attractive, open and open and private at the same time. The client wanted a garden where she could entertain and display her collection of garden ornaments and sculptures. A special shade garden and walkway were installed along the north side. This shady area provides an attractive entrance and quiet sanctuary for the client’s tenant. A unique collection of eye catching evergreen and deciduous perennials and shrubs border the north and west sides of the garden. Plant specimens include Hydrangea, Hosta, otto luyken, fern, privet, foam flower, lenten rose and more. clematis, clethera, roses, lilies, and tulips flank the South and East sides of this fine home.

A new border with evergreen shrubs and perennials were added to complete the look. Before After ______________________________________________________________________________
Restored Tranquility Location: Springfield, VA This shady site originally bordered acres of woodland in Springfield, VA. It was situated close to a nearby stream which the clients could access from their rear yard. When the woodlands were cut down to make room for a new senior citizen’s community and large single-family homes, the clients called on Willow to redefine their yard and install a water feature and complementary trees and shrubs for privacy. A 9’ by 15’ pond with a waterfall and multiple output points was installed adjacent to a rear deck. This essentially extended the clients’ usable living space and created a place for them to enjoy the sounds of the waterfall. A variety of perennials were tiered along the bank for visual interest. They were selected for their suitability to the existing conditions and natural surrounding. Additional shade-loving trees and shrubs were installed along the property border for privacy. Overall, the garden was designed to fill in within three to five years and require little to no maintenance. The clients are now able to enjoy their new tranquil and private woodland. Greater Access and Senior Friendly Location: Springfield, VA This home is located in one of the oldest communities in Springfield, VA. The clients are retired and are the original home owners. The site is situated on a steep hillside and originally had a single-lane driveway. The cement walkway and driveway were uneven and in need of repair. When the residents decided that they would remain in their home during their senior years, Willow installed a new handicap accessible sidewalk and more accessible driveway. Seven cars can now park in the driveway. An assortment of evergreen trees, shrubs and perennials were installed along the driveway to soften the hardscaping and provide year round interest. Additional shrubs and perennials have been installed on the hillside for year-round color. New landscape lighting provides additional security and extends the viewing pleasure of the landscape into the evening.

An Extended Garden Room Location: Old Town Alexandria, VA
This site is situated in a historic town home community. The terrace was previously unused and was overtaken by the neighbor’s bamboo and ivy. The brick paving was in disrepair. The bamboo was removed and made way for clematis vines and climbing roses which now cover the entire fence. A new custom stone terrace and grilling area were installed along with a new shed, storage area for grilling equipment, and trash bin compartment. Hydrangea, iris, lamium, astilbe, lavender, petunia, and a ficus tree were added to compliment the client's collection of antique garden furniture and urns.
